Con quale criterio hai scelto le cover di questo nuovo disco?<\/strong><\/p>\nQuando faccio un album c’\u00e8 tutto un processo da seguire. Ho circa 12 originali e 15 o 20 brani di altri artisti che mi sono piaciuti negli anni e li tiro fuori. Mi faccio un’idea di come sar\u00e0 l’album, pi\u00f9 o meno un concetto di base, poi, con gli originali e tutti i brani, provo a iniziare. In un paio di mesi di tentativi ed errori trovo gli originali ideali. Scelgo le cover che possono andare bene per la mia voce e il mio suonare e le faccio diventare completamente brani miei, non copie carbone!<\/p>\n
Quanto sono importanti oggi il blues e il folk americani nella visione musicale di Greg Prevost?<\/strong><\/p>\nBlues e folk americano sono alla base di qualsiasi cosa io faccia musicalmente.<\/p>\n

Ci racconti qualcosa sui brani che hai composto per il tuo nuovo lavoro “After The Wars”? Soprattutto sulla suite omonima che conclude il disco (Creation<\/em> \/ Retribution<\/em> \/ Redemption<\/em> \/ Zen Cats<\/em>) con Felix Cat<\/em> e la cover di David Bowie di Memory Of A Free Festival<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\nLa suite conclusiva di 4 parti After The Wars<\/strong> \u00e8 come un viaggio nel tempo, nel passato e nel futuro. Creation<\/em> rappresenta l’inizio di tutto, Retribution<\/em> \u00e8 la convinzione che pace ed amore conquistano tutti e Zen Cats<\/em> \u00e8 come una conseguenza pacifica. Tranquillit\u00e0. Sentivo poi che le liriche di Memory Of A Free Festival<\/em> di David Bowie (“the sun machine is coming down and we\u2019re going to have a party … etc …”) potevano chiudere la suite con un sentimento di felicit\u00e0.<\/p>\nPerch\u00e9 questo titolo? “After The Wars”.<\/strong><\/p>\nL’album in un certo senso \u00e8 un concept album dove i brani parlano di amore, solitudine, pace, disordini e pace. No Hallelujah For Glory<\/em>, in origine intitolata Saigon Blues<\/em>, \u00e8 stata scritta nei primi anni ’70 (riarrangiata e riscritta per questo album). \u00c8 come essere arruolato per la guerra in Vietnam, cosa che ho fatto nel 1973. Fui classificato, attraversai la linea, quasi preso, fortunatamente le truppe furono richiamate come la mia, fui ancora “preso all’amo”, come si dice, per 2 anni ancora fino a quando la guerra fin\u00ec, tecnicamente nel 1975. Il concetto del brano \u00e8 essere un soldato, non avere scelta ed essere arruolato o andare in prigione o lasciare per sempre il paese. Una decisione non facile da prendere, i ragazzi che tornarono non ebbero un “bentornato da eroe” come successe per i soldati della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Il messaggio \u00e8 che non c’\u00e8 gloria in nessuna guerra.<\/p>\nQuanto sono stati importanti i musicisti che hanno collaborato con te in “After The Wars”?<\/strong><\/p>\nMolto importanti. La completa visione musicale non si ottiene senza di loro. Per esempio la chitarra solista di Paul Morabito, in Roadkill Rag<\/em>, accentua il contenuto lirico per portarlo al giusto livello. In No More Songs<\/em> la mia voce, con l’accompagnamento vocale di Caroll mia moglie e lo stupendo piano di Karl La Porta, lo rendono cos\u00ec pulito e triste come speravo.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/www.frastuoni.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Greg-Prevost-4-211x300.jpg\")

Hello Greg how are you? Are you happy with how “After The Wars” turned out four years after “For These Times”?<\/strong><\/p>\nAll good Pasquale! Thank you! I am very happy with After The Wars!<\/strong> Four years after Songs For The Times<\/strong>, i would have had it out sooner but released also on Mean Disposition Records my Vintage Violence 1975-1979<\/strong> early works compilation album that I was working on in between the Song For These Times<\/strong> and After The Wars<\/strong> albums. It was released in 2022. I wanted that to come out exactly at the same time as my book, “On The Street I Met A Dog, An Autobiography And The Complete History Of The Chesterfield Kings” published by Massimo del Pozzo on Misty Lane Books.<\/p>\nWhich musical differences there are between “After The Wars” and “Songs For These Times”?<\/strong><\/p>\nAfter The Wars<\/strong> was originally meant to be a straight acoustic album like Songs For These Times<\/strong>. Initially it was recorded with that in mind, but as the recording sessions commenced each song took on a new life more or less. Depending on the song and what I had in mind made me decide what instruments or sounds were needed to paint a complete audio picture. I had many close friends on this album with me that played the necessary parts that made the songs what they are.<\/p>\nWhat criteria did you use to choose the covers for this new album?<\/strong><\/p>\nWhen i do an album i always have a process I go through. I have about 12 originals written and then have 15 or 20 songs that I have loved by other artists throughout my life that I work out. I get an idea of what the album will be, a concept more or less then go through my originals and all the songs i want to attempt to cover. Over the course of a couple of months of trial and error, i find the originals that work in the context of what i am striving for then the same goes for the cover songs. I choose cover songs that work for my voice and style of playing and basically rearrange them to be my \u2018own\u2019 songs and not carbon copying.<\/p>\n
How important are blues and American folk today in Greg Prevost’s musical vision?<\/strong><\/p>\nBlues and American folk music are the basis of everything i do musically.<\/p>\n

Can you tell us something about the songs you composed for your new album “After The Wars”? Especially about the suite of the same name that concludes the album (Creation<\/em> \/ Retribution<\/em> \/ Redemption<\/em> \/ Zen Cats<\/em>) with Felix Cat<\/em> and David Bowie’s cover of Memory Of A Free Festival<\/em>?<\/strong><\/p>\nThe After The Wars<\/strong> 4-part suite is like a speculative time travel into the past and into the future. Creation<\/em> represents the beginning of everything, Retribution<\/em> is all about the pointless wars and unrest, Redemption<\/em> is a realization that peace and love conquers all, and Zen Cats<\/em> is like this peaceful aftermath. Tranquility. I felt that having Bowie’s Memory Of A Free Festival<\/em> with “… the sun machine is coming down and we’re going to have a party” lyrics that leave you with a feeling of happiness ending the suite.<\/p>\nWhy this title? “After the Wars”.<\/strong><\/p>\nThe album in a way is a concept album in that the songs deal with love, loneliness, peace, unrest and war. No Hallelujah For Glory<\/em> was originally titled Saigon Blues<\/em> when i started writing it in the early 70s (and rearranged and rewrote it for this album). It is about being drafted into the Vietnam War, which I was in 1973. I was classified, crossed the line and almost went, but fortunately the troops were being pulled back as my number was being called. I was still “on the hook” as they say for two more years since the war did not technically end until 1975. The concept of the song is about being a soldier, having no choice but to be drafted or go to prison, or leave the country forever. Not an easy decision to make. Guys that served came back and there was never a hero\u2019s welcome as there was for soldiers that served in the Second World War. The ultimate message is there is no glory in any war.<\/p>\nHow much important have been musicians who have collaborated with you in “After the Wars”?<\/strong><\/p>\nVery important. The complete musical vision never would have gotten there without them. For example the electric lead guitar of Paul Morabito on Roadkill Rag<\/em> accents the lyrical content and takes it to the necessary level. On No More Songs<\/em> it is just my vocal, with Caroll, my wife’s vocal accompaniment and Karl LaPorta’s beautiful piano, which carries the song and makes it as stark and mournful as I’d hoped.<\/p>\nIf you had to choose 10 albums to bring with you on a desert island which ones would you choose?<\/strong><\/p>\nToo hard for me to choose 10. Let’s say anything by … As to why, because they make me happy.<\/p>\n

In 2024 your live approach is changed?<\/strong><\/p>\nYes. I don\u2019t really embrace playing live. I do on occasion and i never like to announce when i play a show, i just show up somewhere and play!<\/p>\n
